Maria Calfa-DePaul has been playing guitar and writing songs she was fifteen. She did Community Theater and was a wandering minstrel in a nursing home until a cyst on her vocal cords forced her to quit public singing for eight years. Thanks to successful vocal cord surgery September 2005 and subsequent speech therapy Maria began singing again! Her CD: Moments of Happiness was released on October 25, 2006 and when she isn’t performing she is busy writing new songs for her next CD “Almost Beautiful. Maria has also been writing instrumental music almost exclusively on her iPad. Her instrumental song “Symphony of Madness” won first place in the iPad Musician’s Group’s January 2013 contest. Maria has also made a variety of You tube tutorials for the iPad as well as some videos featuring her acoustic music. Maria's acoustic songs have been described as spiritual pop and her fan base range in age from 6 to 88. Maria 's songwriting is a rare combination of memorable melodies intertwined with insightful lyrics. Her instrumental compositions encompass a variety of styles and a variety of music apps. All of the songs written in February 2013 for the RPM challenge were composed using the iPad. Maria's website is: www.mariacalfa-depaul.com and her soundcloud website is: www.soundcloud.com/mariacalfa-depaul for some reason having a hyphen in her name has caused problems with linking to her websites! So hopefully, if you are interested in Maria's music you will copy and paste the sites above.
Random Acts of Music(2013)
10 compositions written in the month of February 2013. All the pieces were composed on my iPad. They encompass a variety of genres and reflect the many moods that one month can hold. I learned a great deal about myself as a musician and composer and feel that this experience has given me a tremendous sense of accomplishment and fuel to continue to hone my skills and write as much as I can and even more than I think I'm capable of. I hope you enjoy these pieces and I'm grateful for RPM for this challenge and for growth it provided!
Dedicated to my Mom Angelica RPM 2014(2014)
11 Songs written and recorded in the month of February 2014. All of the songs were recorded on either my iPad4 or my iPad mini2. All but one is an instrumental and that one is Unconditional and it was one of the hardest songs to write because of the subject matter. I wrote it on my ukulele. The rest of the instrumentals were written on my iPads using either the on screen keyboards or a controller. I also used my Korg Volca series of analogue synths for one of the songs (Rising out of the Ashes) recorded via 1/4 inch plug into Apogee Jam. All the external instruments including my ukulele (Unconditional) were recorded using the Apogee Jam. And lastly the last song used samples I made up on my Korg Microsampler. hope you enjoy the album!
